Barbara Tako is a two-time cancer survivor and a cancer motivational speaker. She is also a clutter clearing motivational speaker and published author. Her books are “Cancer Survivorship Coping Tools: We’ll get you through this” (Anyi, upcoming 2015) and “Clutter Clearing Choices: Clear Clutter, Organize Your Home, & Reclaim Your Life” (O Books, 2010) available wherever books are sold. Author note: I am a breast cancer survivor as of 2010 and I became a melanoma survivor in 2014. I have had surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation as part of my treatments. I struggled a lot with the fears and anxieties of my cancer diagnosis and that prompted me to write the book I wish someone could have handed to me when I was first diagnosed.I want to help other cancer patients with the stress and worries that go with a cancer diagnosis.
Since 1998, Barbara Tako has taught clutter clearing and home organizing as a professional motivational speaker and published writer. She now seeks to help cancer survivors and their loved ones cope with cancer's emotional anguish. Barbara has appeared numerous times on television and radio, published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, featured in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and written and appeared in magazine and newspaper articles across the country. For several years, Barbara wrote a simple living column for the White Bear Press with a circulation of 32,00 and coordinated a simple living group, which met monthly in the St. Paul, Minnesota area. She is currently a self-syndicated columnist. Barbara has shared her techniques at business wellness seminars, parenting organizations, church groups, and other venues in the Midwest. Major corporate business clients have included: 3M, Medtronic, Target, Securian and Supervalu.
Barbara's honesty, humorous stories, authentic style and concise helpful tips have entertained and helped thousands of people to clear clutter and free up time and energy for their priorities. She now also wants to help cancer survivors and their families and friends.
During seven years in the business world, she handled billing, payroll, and inventory. She was later an underwriter, supervisor, instructor and internal publications writer in the insurance industry. She has a B.A. in English and psychology from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with graduate coursework in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She lives, survives, and thrives in St. Paul, Minnesota with her husband, children, and dogs.
